This tour is a bestseller for a reason. It’s a comprehensive tour of Hawaii’s number one attraction, Pearl Harbor. Relive the “date which will live in infamy” as you board the USS Arizona Memorial, which sits on top of the battleship sank during the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. You’ll be able to stand directly above the sunken ship and see the oil that’s still leaking out after more than 65 years! You’ll also get to see dramatic footage of the actual attack and the shrine room, which is dedicated to the 1,177 crew members resting below the waters.
**On October 14th, 2009 the U.S.S. Missouri Battleship will undergo a scheduled $15 million dry dock overhaul for painting and repairs. The last day we will be including the USS Missouri Battleship portion of this tour before its temporary closure is October 9, 2009. While the USS Missouri is closed, Discover Hawaii Tours will substitute our normal excursion to the battleship with admission and a guided tour of the increasingly popular Pacific Aviation Museum.
Later you’ll explore the site of the Japanese unconditional surrender to the United States onboard the world’s most impressive battleship; the USS Missouri, also know as the “Might Mo”. This event ended the United States involvement in World War II. The Pearl Harbor portion of the tour will conclude with a visit to the Arizona Memorial museum and the U.S. Pacific Fleet Headquarters.
Following Pearl Harbor, you’ll visit Honolulu’s downtown historical districts, and view the Punchbowl National Cemetery where President Obama’s paternal grandfather is buried and his grandmother’s memorial services were held. Continue through to such sights as the Hawaiian Homelands districts of Papakolea and Makiki Heights, and pass by the prestigious Punahou School where Barack Obama graduated in 1979. From there you’ll proceed to his Poki Street childhood home, a home at which he lived periodically with his mother and younger sister. You’ll even view the Kapiolani Medical Center where Obama was born. Conclude your Honolulu city tour with a scenic drive to his last and primary home in Hawaii at 1617 Beretania Street. Barack Obama resided here with his grandparents from 1971-1976.
You’ll be picked up from your hotel and travel in comfort in one of our mini-coaches, featuring reclining seats and large windows. Your guide will tell you interesting historic facts along the way. This is a bestseller and seats sell out fast. Reserve yours now.
So make a day of it at Pearl Harbor, an experience not to be missed while on your Hawaii vacation.
